Common Questions
Do I need a new fibre connection?
If you already have fibre installed at your address, we can switch you over without any new installation. If you're on copper or don't have fibre yet, Chorus will install the fibre connection at no charge.
How long does it take to switch?
If you have existing fibre, switching typically takes 1-3 business days. New fibre installations take around 10-15 business days depending on your area. Hyperfibre connections may need an extra site survey for the higher-end optical equipment.
Is there really no contract?
That's right — our plans are month-to-month. You can cancel any time with 30 days notice. The one caveat: if you cancel within the first 12 months of signing up, a one-off $99 early-cancellation fee applies (this covers the installation and provisioning cost). After 12 months, cancellation is free.
What's a Static IP and do I need one?
A static IP address is one that doesn't change every time your router reconnects. It's useful for remote access to home or office systems, hosting services, security cameras, or running a VPN you can connect into. Our Hyperfibre and Business plans include a static IP. Residential fibre plans use a dynamic IP by default; we can add a static IP for an extra $5/month if you need one.
Do I need my own router?
Our plans are BYO router — most standard routers work great. If you need one, we can supply a router on request. Hyperfibre customers will need a multi-gig-capable router to actually use the higher speeds — we're happy to recommend or supply the right hardware for your setup.
How does the VoIP service work?
Our VoIP runs in the cloud — no on-premise hardware needed. You get a local phone number, a mobile app you can install on staff phones, and the ability to take calls from anywhere with an internet connection. Add as many numbers as you need ($5/month each). Standard calling rates and add-on packages are available on request.
